An Extreme Prolapse Case in Piebald Chamaeleo calyptratus
28/04/2025

The piebald Chamaeleo calyptratus (in the US often called translucents) first appeared about 14 years ago.
Since then, this color aberration has been the subject of excessive inbreeding. As a result, the heterozygosity of the captive population has been reduced exponentially, leading to significant health issues.
A particularly troubling case involved a prolapse of cloaca, which was cleaned, repositioned, and stitched. Unfortunately, the animal did not survive.
