Beyond Nosy Hara: Brookesia micra Discovered on Nosy Anjombavola

31/10/2026

New field findings clarify the distribution of Brookesia micra, one of the world's smallest amniote vertebrates. A new scientific note in Spixiana reports the species on Nosy Anjombavola, marking its presence on another island within the Nosy Hara archipelago in northern Madagascar.

Because Nosy Anjombavola sits approximately two kilometers from Nosy Hara, this observation documents the micro-endemic leaf chameleon in a distinct locality within its existing island group rather than expanding its known regional footprint. The adult female was encountered in undisturbed deciduous dry forest and released unharmed.
