Calumma emelinae was described in 2020 by Prötzel, Scherz, Ratsoavina, Vences & Glaw during their revision of the Calumma nasutum group. It is a small chameleon restricted to humid forest zones of eastern Madagascar. Field observations indicate that the species is largely confined to bamboo thickets, where it demonstrates unusual locomotor precision. Unlike most congeners that cling to firm branches, C. emelinae moves confidently across smooth bamboo stems and unstable leaves, maintaining balance in terrain that shifts under its weight.

Morphologically, the species is characterized by fine granular scalation, a short rounded rostral appendage, and reduced cranial and gular crests. The body is slender, with coloration ranging from green to yellowish tones, providing camouflage among bamboo culms. Its anatomy reflects the general pattern of the nasutum complex.
