Furcifer voeltzkowi: New Insights into Distribution and Seasonality
Recent fieldwork has shown that Furcifer voeltzkowi is more widely distributed across the Katsepy Peninsula than previously recognized, with two new localities documented. These discoveries add important detail to our understanding of the species' biology and seasonal dynamics.
In coastal sand dune forests, hatchlings emerge in November–December, reach full size by February, and begin to disappear as the harsh dry season sets in around May. In contrast, populations in lowland moist forest pockets decline during the dry season but adults can still be found throughout the year.
Equally important are the contributions of enthusiasts and naturalists conducting private observations. Individuals such as Jimmy Victor Navoaka provide valuable records that complement formal surveys, helping to build a fuller picture of the species' ecology and conservation needs.
