The Chameleon Tango: When Colors Do the Talking
04/07/2026

A rare photodocumentation captures the mating behavior of Chamaeleo senegalensis from Nigeria. During courtship, the male turns almost white, while the female keeps her calm, cryptic green tones — a striking contrast in the canopy. Chameleon mating can be surprisingly varied: sometimes quiet and steady, other times so intense that the pair may slip from a branch and continue their determined effort on the forest floor. It's a vivid reminder of how strongly hormones and instinct drive these reptiles as they secure the next generation.
