The Enduring Lineage of Nosy Faly Panthers

21/05/2026

The Nosy Faly Panther Chameleon has become highly popular in captivity due to the males' striking coloration when excited. Their palette of light blues, whites, and the characteristic red rain pattern makes this locality especially attractive for captive breeding programs.

The island population itself is relatively small, and over the years several introductions of females from the mainland and from nearby Nosy Be have been reported. The encouraging news is that, despite this genetic dilution, wild‑caught individuals still display the same phenotype observed many years ago, indicating a remarkable stability of the locality's visual traits.

The animals were kindly made available for photographic documentation by Barni Berszán.
